LAS VEGAS – 21 special patients have been chosen to represent their hospital as standard bearers during the final two rounds the 2021 Shriners Children’s Open, Oct. 9 & 10 at TPC Summerlin.
In their role as standard bearers, patients will carry the score cards of the PGA TOUR players during the final rounds, as an exclusive, “inside the ropes” experience. Patients will have the opportunity to interact and engage with the professionals and show the players how the Shriners Children’s Open experience is more than just a tournament. The patients range in age from 13 – 19 and have demonstrated great determination in their recovery from orthopedic conditions, burns, cleft lip and palate and more. Each patient was nominated and has an inspiring story to tell.
“Shriners Children’s patients have been anticipating this year’s tournament and the chance to be involved at the 2021 Shriners Children’s Open in Las Vegas. The tournament week is a time where they can meet and interact with fellow patients and make lifelong friends and memories. The entire week-long experience is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our patients and their dedicated family members and loved ones,” said Brad Koehn, chairman of the Shriners Children’s Open committee.
To help with the costs of travel to Las Vegas, Shriners Children’s has kicked off the fourth annual #FundraiseFORELove campaign, benefiting each patient’s cost to attend the tournament. Each patient has a special fundraising website that includes their biography and special story. Donations for individual standard bearers can be made online now.
“Our mission as the Shriners Children’s Open is to spread the message of the amazing work that is done each and every day at the Shriners Children’s locations around the globe,” remarked Patrick Lindsey, tournament director of Shriners Children’s Open. “We want to ensure each patient and their family is given a wonderful and memorable experience at TPC Summerlin, getting the honor to meet and interact with some of the world’s best athletes.”
